Red Journal Entry// 11.3.2010// Day of Regret…and Hope?

A day after the 2010 US Midterm Elections, I have nothing but feelings of disgust and distrust for most of our elected officials, especially the newly elected Republicans. I’m appalled by the willingness of the people to allow the politicians and candidates to deceive Us further. I still distrust our government and what it currently stands for: corporatism, aka fascism. The Republican PR machine keeps saying the result of the yesterday’s election was the voice of the People. Rather, it was the voice of the concentrated Voters, and they don’t represent the entire middle class or America as a whole. Far from it; what was witnessed was a retributive “shellacking” a Republican base that was still sour from the 2008 Democratic Election Landslide, compounded by the effects of the recession (as is the entire nation) and the influence of the conservative Right mass media propagation of Obama’s so called ‘socialist’ healthcare and economic reforms. The real Socialist Left scoffs at that notion.

Our nation is now more divided than ever and “the illusion of” honest representative democratic governance is more daunting than ever because, yet again, the two major political parties in America are at odds, and appearing on the surface as if they want to compromise in a center-bipartisan manner with President Obama and Speaker of the House-in-waiting Rep. John Boehner (R-OH), but noting that it will be difficult. I say “the illusion of” honest representative democratic governance because of the innate, yet perhaps unknown or unacknowledged underlying belief of the most of the nation, and also of the Left’s schools of anti-capitalist, anti-corporatist, anti-consumerist, anarcho-syndicalist, anarcho-communist, and other schools of socialist thought (up to and including institutional analysts, sometimes stigmatically dubbed ‘conspiracy theorists’), that both parties are unabatedly, at the highest levels, most obviously, but undoubtedly at most levels of party affiliation, tied to corporate America, big banks, big oil, and the unruly and psychotic 1%,,. The partisan battle has just intensified (on the surface, as to further divide and deceive the People), and hope for any real progress is lost. Beneath the surface, it just feels as if the Elitists are further pursing their secret agenda, though Alex Jones feels otherwise, stating he feels the People are awakening to the Elitists agenda. To that end, there is some hope and relief, that at least more people are becoming aware, especially with all the new kinds of truth movements, and reinvigoration of activism at many different core causes and groups.

Obama was seen as the Unifier, and many political pundits were assuming he’d united the entire nation and bring the Left-Right divide more to the center. He succeeded in strengthening the core at the edges of the political spectrum, namely the Truly Existing Socialists, Communists, Anarchists, and Libertarians, while further polarizing party members from Democratic & Republican parties.

The challenge to unite such a diverse nation [with so many different political views, to say the least, some more fervent than religion] is a serious one. Members (constituent party members) from both major parties literally feel hate for each other. Members of third parties and other independents are revolted by both parties, and the uninterested are exactly that. The Big Two constituent party members fall back and become, like usual when not in election times, inactive and disinterested in politics, but quite interested in consumption, regardless of economic situation. On the contrary, the members of third parties, such as the Libertarians, Democratic Socialists, Tea Party, anarchists, etc., remain active in political activity via activism and community involvement, protests, etc, but are shunned and remain Excluded. The members of the third group of people in America, the outcasts or uninterested remain indifferent to the political world, perhaps as they rightfully should, given that the political world and members of that elite world, and the Elitists in general, don’t really care about the People, much less the outcast and disinterested. Slavoj Zizek, will probably illustrate this notion to a perfect degree, as he has in the past with different subsets of groups of people. Further, this third group will likely assume as true, albeit invalid Truth, what the mass media machine propagates, living vicariously at best thru their celebrity idols, consuming carelessly and ignoring the ecological, economic, and social problems at bay, that are only worsening,.

It is not to say that I believe in the Democratic Party or in the hope of the Democratic Party being victorious in yesterday’s elections. It is like saying I believe in the Democratic Party as much as I believe in the Republican Party: I don’t believe in either, but I would prefer the lesser of the two evils—the Democrats. The Truly Existing Democratic Party and Truly Existing Republican Party are not what that what their Ideal was once, and the interests that the Parties now represent are not those of the People, as they once stood for in the past. Evidently, the rise of the populist Libertarian Party and Tea Party are proof of an illusioned People, awaking from an illusionary culture and acting out through nonviolent direct action. Unfortunately, the consequence of these movements has resulted in resurgence in the Republican base in the Senate and House. As an anarchist, I believe in neither party, neither at an authoritative level such as that of the highest levels of our elective/representative democratic (hegemonic) structure of government, nor at any level simply because of the amount of disconnects between the Representative of Government and the Constituent, the disparity of wealth in the nation, and the connections to corporatist/corporate interests—not the interests of the People. As an anarcho-communist, I detest the corporatist (read fascist) Democrats and Republicans, with some good exceptions, i.e. Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) and Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), but that may be a stretch in itself. Moreover, it is days like this that reinvigorate my passion for despising the part, it is days like this that reinvigorate my passion for despising the part electorate system and our Truly Existing US Government, in general. Paradoxically, days like these make me almost want to abandon the fight against the evermore increasingly obviousness of oppression from our corporatist, powerful and corrupt Government and their Corporate Lords, as it seems hopeless at times. But I won’t give up the fight—a worthy one.

In closing, this only touches on the tip of the socio-cultural-politico spectrum, and doesn’t even begin differentiate between the magnitude of matrices, differences, interconnections, among the magnificent complexity that is the Human Existence as divided by Continent—Nation—State—City—Town—Home—Self. Ideally, what I think is needed a world or communities where participatory democracy with anarcho-communist principles, stripped of influence from institutional authorities—religious, political, corporate; without fantastical religious fervor & division between non-believers—an agnostic/atheist system of secular spirituality); without borders; without wealth and resource disparity. But perhaps, therein lies the problem, or the melting pot for the true beginning for Change. After all the post election hoopla has subsided, and all the political monsters resume business as usual, the People and the Voters will once again see that the interests of the Big Two aren’t that of the People or the Voters, even, but of their own agenda. We will be back at it in 2012, with even more vigor and more fingers to point at, and even more Democrats and Republicans squabbling ever so heatedly. In the year of the supposed coming apocalypse, I would like to see rise of Anarchism in its many forms and the birth of a new Communism in 2012. That would be true Change—of the mind, body, spirit, culture, politic, of Living—Truly Existing Revolutionary Change.

Paulson Was Behind Bailout Martial Law Threat

Paul Joseph Watson

Prison Planet.com

Thursday, November 20, 2008

Senator James Inhofe has revealed that Henry Paulson was behind the threats of martial law and a new great depression prior to the passage of the bailout bill, having made such warnings during a conference call on September 19th, around two weeks before the legislation was eventually approved by both the Senate and Congress.

As we reported at the time, on October 2, Democratic Congressman Brad Sherman gave a stunning speech on the House floor during which he decried the fact that, “Many of us were told in private conversations that if we voted against this bill on Monday that the sky would fall, the market would drop two or three thousand points the first day, another couple of thousand the second day, and a few members were even told that there would be martial law in America if we voted no.”

A few days before, Rep. Michael Burgess also told the House, “Mr. Speaker I understand we are under Martial Law as declared by the speaker last night,” referring to a temporary suspension of the rules and procedures of Congress by its leaders so that a bill can be passed quickly.

But the origin of the most dire warnings about physical martial law in America, to which Sherman was likely referring, has now been exposed.

Will Obama and his administration be able to blaze a new road in American politics, and appear to not be headed to a new world order, or will the same failed political roads be taken, as in the past. Whilst the powers that be may in action behind the scenes, as yet to be proven, but what I do hope is that with the face of the Democratic Party ruling, maybe better things will come for the People, all classes, but the hard-working middle class. I’m torn between these two visions of America. An America that is, and could be, symbolized by Obama & the Future, and the vision that the supposed Illuminati do in fact control all, and this may well be one of their ploys. Let’s just hope for a better tomorrow; for a better, smarter, more tolerant America. A better world, not controlled by the few, but shared & managed by the many, the People.

Watching last night’s events transpire was amazing, as Democrats and the Democratic Party were able to celebrate an amazing victory for the first time since 1996, taking the White House, the Senate, and the House Change is imminent with Obama. The Nation is headed in a new direction, whatever it may be, and I’m glad for that. I’m glad for Change—the type of change Obama can bring. Change moves the world forward, yielding in progress. My personal belief about the recently declining state of the Nation, especially abroad, is that the US was/is broken. Obama will fix that if he’s truly the Democrat he’s said he is. What I mean is that it’s obvious the direction of the nation wasn’t good. It’s been said time & again that we’re not liked in some parts of the world, be it European and/or Middle Eastern nations. We’re not the beacon of light we once were. But, hopefully Obama will change the way America is viewed. Our nation has evolved, and it’s time for a President that is part of the changing times. If his vision of modern democracy incorporates socialistic economic qualities, then so be it. China has climbed to a world financial juggernaut, and it’s clearly because of the structure of their government and economic systems. Granted, I don’t believe that the Chinese way of governing isn’t better than what America, Obama and the new government can create, in Democracy. All I’m saying is that I’m not scared of a little bit of socialism in America. I think it would make us a stronger, more disciplined people, with hard-working ethical values. There should be reward for our hard work, but the way that the consumerism-capitalism world view has exploded into products we don’t need, and prices that are ridiculous.

That being said, I am disappointed that Proposition 8 wasn’t passed in California. It’s evident that we are an evolved species, and that the way people relate and choose to love is our natural human right. Love is all a child needs to be raised well, not just by a man and a woman. The Law or the Religious Right should not have the right to tell who can or can’t marry or raise a child. You’d think we’ve come farther than this, but there are still many ignorant and fearful people in California at least.

All in all, it’s about change. And last night’s victory in Barack Obama was a signal for change the new era of America. The questions that remain will be how he selects his transition team, his new cabinet, and if the dawn of a New Day (a New World Order) is upon us. Further, how will he handle this fragile economy, as the market continues to drop, and will he handle the war and America’s relations with our current allies & enemies? We’ll begin to see shortly. For now, it’s a good day in America, and Obama is our new Leader.

Go Obama! Lets hope its truly time for change, and not the type of change that will lead to the New World Order the conspiracy theorists think the world is heading towards. I voted for Obama. I voted against the Republicans. I’m for a bigger government in the areas where the government needs to be bigger. I hope Obama is for the People and not the newest & baddest arm of the Bilderbergs. Lets hope for a new America, and new relationship with the world. Change in the core beliefs of the country. Change in the attitudes towards others and other nations. Change in the attitude that we’re the biggest, baddest, richest, best nation in the world. Because I’ve never believed in that foolish pride; pride which along with our foreign policy failures that have made us out to be capitalistic, imperialistic, and not well liked in the world. Good try McCain. Enough of Palin, enough of Joe the f’n Plumber, know it all.

I’m writing this in clear anticipation of an Obama victory for the Democratic Party. With all the early voting turnout, new voter registration, clear need for change, change in political thinking, and the majority of the latest polls pointing to Obama winning, I would be outraged and flabbergasted if McCain ends up winning, as Bush did in 2000. That singular event led me to distrust and challenge the government and the power of the government. That administration and the things that they did legislatively, abroad, military-wise, financially, and even secretly (9/11) led to the downward spiral our Nation has dealt with until now. If that happens again, there is no doubt the Powers That Be, are exercising that power.

Change.

I still lean Left; way Left. But its obviously time for Change. Something different. We’ll see how the era in American history prevails. Lets evolve.

(CNN) — Friday marks the 79th anniversary of the day that launched the stock market crash of 1929.

As an unprecedented wave of selling threw the floor of the New York Stock Exchange into pandemonium on a day that became known as Black Thursday, a show of organized support by a coterie of leading bankers halted the panic. But on the following Monday, the market collapsed in a tsunami of selling.

Every intense convulsion of the stock market raises primal fears spawned by the Great Crash of 1929 and the ensuing Great Depression, which dragged on for a full decade and has haunted Americans ever since.

The Panic of 2008 is no exception.

In the past year, the market’s fall has at times rivaled that of 1929. Are there connections or similarities between those earlier national traumas and our current crisis?

First some facts about that earlier experience. The Great Crash and the Great Depression were two separate events. The Crash was a financial panic, the Depression an economic downturn. The one does not necessarily lead to the other; the market has collapsed several times in American history without bringing on a depression. Great Depression holds lessons for surviving a tough economy

The Crash began in October 1929, and the worst of it was over in three weeks; the Depression did not fasten itself on the nation for another year. To this day, the connection between them remains unclear, which makes it difficult to draw lessons or analogies from them.

The Dow plunged 39 percent between October 23 and November 13, 1929, but it regained 74 percent of that loss by March 1930. Only when the economy failed to gain momentum in the spring did the market slip back.

By fall the country had slipped into a depression, and the market resumed a downward course that did not touch bottom until July 1932. It did not again return to the levels of 1929 until 1954.

The Depression did not end until increased military spending revived the economy in the spring of 1940.

The bull market of the 1920s was unique in that it marked the first time large numbers of ordinary people participated. The market moved from Wall Street to Main Street and aroused intense interest even among people who were not active in it. The new investors, or “fish” as the pros called them, were prone to panic when the market fell sharply.

Could it happen again? History never repeats itself, but historical patterns do — though always in a new context. Here are just a few of the similarities and differences between the earlier crisis and its modern version.

During the 1920s, the financial industry underwent a great expansion, bringing into the business many inexperienced people and new investment vehicles — most notably the investment trust, the forerunner of the modern mutual fund. Nobody knew what impact they would have on the market with their buying and selling on a large scale.

The business world hailed the 1920s as the “New Era,” one with new rules in which the old pattern of cyclical depressions would no longer occur and prosperity would be continuous. Compare this delusion with the “New Economy” of the 1990s.

The 1920s marked the beginning of the consumer economy, and with it a broad expansion of credit. Installment buying made its debut on a large scale. Credit also was used to buy stocks on margin, greatly increasing the market’s volume and volatility.

The banking system was shaky throughout the 1920s, and failures escalated steadily after 1929. The Crash exposed many cases of fraud that led to investigations and passage of the most significant banking reform in American history.

The Glass-Steagall Act of 1933 created the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., or FDIC, gave rise to the Securities and Exchange Commission, or SEC, and separated investment banks from commercial banks. The latter reform was repealed in 1999, giving banks free rein to perform both activities once again.

Some differences between the eras are worth noting. Prior to 1933, the federal government played virtually no active role in relieving the banking crisis of the 1920s. The stock market did not have giant institutional buyers moving huge blocks of stock. Nor did it operate on a global scale, though it was deeply influenced by international events.

After the crash, the banks had plenty of money to lend but no takers, the opposite of today’s situation. Deflation became the mortal enemy as people removed their cash from banks and hoarded it.

A familiar pattern emerged from these events. Business and the Republican Party in the 1920s demanded and got a “free” market unrestrained by government. Neither Wall Street nor the New York Stock Exchange was regulated by the government.

The resulting disaster prompted outraged demands that Washington “do something.” Regulation was then forthcoming. Later, as prosperity returned and the market began soaring, the restraints were gradually removed and the pattern of excess began anew until it collapsed once again in our own time. With the fall comes renewed pleas for government to “do something.”

Finally, it is important to remember that psychology plays a huge role in financial markets. Every panic has been at bottom a crisis of confidence. So too with the economy. As Frederick Lewis Allen observed, “Prosperity is more than an economic condition; it is a state of mind.” The trick is always to find out what exactly is needed to restore it. We are still fishing for the answer to that riddle.

The opinions expressed in this commentary are solely those of Maury Klein.
